The night is young as people would say as Linden smoothed out his suit again. Extravagant parties like these were fun, sure, but not always his cup of tea. However, his mother said that the family needed to make an appearance in society every now and again. His siblings got the last ones and now it was his turn.

Like a high roller, Linden stepped out of one of the few luxury cars that they had in possession in a suit suitable for this gothic themed masquerade. The local designer was top notch and it always felt awkward whenever he had to wear whatever they made. Why? The fit was like a glove.

The seemingly seamless long sleeved black shirt that was thin and sheer hugged him like a second skin. The vest gave some coverage and was lightweight like the slacks he wore that would help him from overheating. It was the jacket that probably weighed the most with its extravagant embroidery around the color that spread to the opening of his chest and shoulders before it would begin to taper away at the waist. All of these embellishments that were meant to go with the mask in his possession.

There was no need to present an invitation card based on the way he was dressed as he climbed up stairs and could feel the heat emanate from the entrance. Taking a deep breath, Linden stepped forward as he brought the mask up and donned it on. Finding it very comfortable and easy to see despite the metal wires that were woven into it. Tying the back of it behind his head and entered the dark flickering entrance hall to gaze down at the main hallway where shadows danced.

"Let's get this over with," he sighed and walked down the hall. The sound of music the traditional dark waltz just loud enough to be heard but not enough to drown out sound of chatter. Soon, the hallway led him to large wooden doors that soon opened for dramatic effect that would have some turn to gaze at who came in before going back to their own little world.

Being given such an opportunity meant Linden found some champagne and decided to hide. Though it seemed others thought of the same thing as they started the debauchery early. The bustle dress already hiked up as the man acted like a dog in heat with how fast his hips moved. With the roll of his eyes and sound of disgust, Linden walked the other way to let those two have their moment and proceeded to upstairs. Finishing the one flute and grabbing another as he decided to get a birds eye view of everything without getting a show.
In the room sat a sedative haze of cigar smoke and fine fabric. Leo had kept himself while waiting for Gray. A cigar hung fat in his mouth as he maneuvered about a pool table and aimlessly hit at balls.

The man was not late by any means- not if the grandfather clocked that ticked away next to a fine inlaid mantlepiece spoke truly. The wax-sealed invitation had read to meet him in Meeting Room B, "11:00pm"- right after the last opera show, where Leo could hear the rapturous applause like thunder from above.

The meeting room reflected the main stage in its design- luxurious victorian, with a high ceiling, glass tables and slices of modernity, including the section of two pool tables topped in green carpeting. Leo was hunched over the pool table, drew his cue back. Eyes were focused on the ball before him, his visual surroundings blurring. He snapped his cue forward and both balls, 4 and 7, shot across the table and disappeared into adjacent holes.

Leo surveyed his handiwork, as he reapplied chalk onto the cue. Already, he was looking for his next maneuver- mastering the game of pool meant understanding angles, physics, where best to monopolize on an intersection of potential paths. In the routine that had settled into his life as a high ranking Jabberwockie, he had found pool one of the few distractions that truly exercised his brain and kept the monotony at bay.

He was midway through taking his next shot when he heard a rap at the door, that echoed through the high-ceiling room. He did not let the sound distract him, and he wound up and fired his next shot. It missed.

Sighing, he turned towards the door, careful not to let the frustration wrinkle his features.

"Come in," he called, as he reached for a half-filled glass of whiskey and took a distracted sip from it. A man popped his head in, dressed sharply in the formal and crisp colors of black and white.

"Gray Pierre is here, Sir."

That jollied his mood up. He set the whiskey glass back on the the side of the pool table and set the cue aside. Just for this moment. "Excellent. Send him in."

As was expected of a Friday Night, people filed into the semi-circular rows of fine, velvet cushioned seats. The crowd was immaculately dressed, as Leo suspected there wasn't much occasion to bring out the finest of one's collection throughout a work week. Unless, of course, they owned a high class casino and were always expected to wear a bowtie smile.

As was befitting of the owner of such an establishment, Leo occupied one of the balconies that overlooked the stage. The prime spot, in fact, that was neither the closest or farthest to the stage but provided the most wholistic viewing of the stage below. For most the acts and plays, the stage decoration was kept simple, at Augustine's request, for he insisted to Leo that the audience should be directed to the lyricism and art itself than flashy things.

Leo only nodded and murmured his agreement, as the casino and opera house owner delegated most of the creative direction to his dear playwright friend, whilst he handled the financials. It had been a boon of an operation, as Augustine claimed the people in the Citadel were "starved" for fine art, but as Leo surveyed the seats that began to swell with occupants, he suspected they were looking more for an escape, a marbled, gilded bubble to protect them from the horrors of their reality.

Leo did not dedicate much thought to it, as he did not care why people paid for tickets, so long as they paid, and turned his attention to the fine dame seated next to him. Caterina was a Diamond's high card, a petite and pretty thing that looked far younger than her age of forty.

"I hear Morticia's on tonight," Leo started, accepting a glass of wine offered to him on a gold platter ringed in flourished design. He saw a smile crest Caterina's painted lips, for he knew Morticia to be one of her favorites.

"Excellent" was all Caterina could saw before the lights dimmed and a lonely voice rang out, clear and strong, silencing the rolling murmur of conversation amongst opera attendees. The opera had started.
